Picking materials for a mountain home and more great Homegoods finds

I spent a couple of hours looking at fabrics with a client yesterday ...

We are working on a new mountain home she is building in Wyoming. We selected fabrics for the large living room and also for the master bedroom. It is a large house and we are going room by room ...

This reminded me of a rabbit fur ... it is faux. It will be made into a pillow for the living room sofa.

This will be a blanket we are making for the back of one of the sofas. The thin purple stripe will coordinate with the eggplant colored velvet sofas.

I sent my client this collage to show her how I see the fixtures looking - a nice mix of iron and brass. You can find the images and their sources on my Pinterest page here.

The fabrics we selected for the master bedroom were inspired by a pillow the client purchased. We set up fabrics on chairs in the Pindler showroom to give us a visual of how they would look together.

This house is going to have some wonderful materials ... with rustic, industrial and modern touches. Last week we worked on some of the stone for the bathrooms:

So much fun!

After our meeting I went over to see what was going on at my local HomeGoods. As usual I was not disappointed ...

If only I had a warehouse to store it all. If only!

A good shopping day

Sometimes I have to pinch myself to believe that I actually get paid to shop. Today was one of those days. I really don't enjoy shopping for myself - especially if it is for clothes or shoes ... but walking around Homegoods to pick up a few things for the upcoming weddings is just more fun than anyone should have while working.

It is not always like that ... sometimes there is not much to be found and it takes more effort. But today I hit the jackpot.

When I style a wedding, I like to put mock gifts on the gift table to make it look pretty even before the guest arrive.  I also have a little wrapping paper addiction going on. I was able to satisfy both today. At $2.99 a roll you really can't go wrong!

I also found these napkins to use during the cocktail hour for a rustic/vintage wedding next month. $2.99 each for 20 napkins. I wasn't sure which ones I liked better so I got them both.

And they had the most amazing rugs today ... This 9x12' wool rug was on clearance for $249. It killed me to leave it hanging on the rack.

It takes a lot of self control to not buy all the amazing things I find. Even if I don't need them I am always tempted to get them and put them in my inventory. I am usually pretty good, but today there was one piece I just couldn't resist ...

It is neutral and just the right size. And very lightweight which is a huge plus when I am styling a wedding. I think it will make a nice seat for a sweetheart table and can work for a rustic wedding and also for one that is more elegant.

I love the detail on it.

And I'm going to pick this up tomorrow. I found it on Craigslist.

Once the upholsterer gets ahold of it, it is going to be a partner for this chair.
Not a bad shopping day I think and a good start to the week.

Summer Solstice and a French pot

I've been having problems with my neck lately and I have been advised to not spend as much time on my computer as I do ... and to take frequent breaks. So this week I took two nice long breaks and went outside and worked in the yard a bit. It is such wonderful therapy for me to get outside in the beautiful sunshine and garden. Even if all I am doing is cleaning up. Which is mostly what I did. A lot of trimming, raking, and sweeping. I worked like a dog ... even sawed down a tree really big bush.

Ahhh... do you see all those healthy aphids? My next task ... put a little soapy water on them to save the roses.

After it was all cleaned up, I met a client at HomeGoods to look at a few things for her house and while I was there I could not help but notice a beautiful green pot. In the clearance aisle. Yeah, it had my name on it.

I have no idea why it was on clearance. It was originally $200 marked down to $100 and then on clearance for $45. It has a tiny little spot where the glaze is gone - about the size of a pea. Nothing I can't fix with a green marker and a little clear nail polish if I wanted to. And to make it even better, I used a belated birthday gift card from a friend. Thank you M!

This morning I planted a few plants inside. It is the perfect happy little exclamation point to celebrate all my hard work. And to mark the Summer Solstice.

I hope you are enjoying this longest day of the year today :)
