A Chic Mountain Home

It has been a while since I posted and I thought it was time to see if I still remember how!

It has been almost a year since this project was completed ... it was a wonderful collaboration between my client, her builder and myself. I worked in person with my client locally but the project was 1,000 miles away in Wyoming. I worked off the building plans as we selected the finish materials...  tile, fabrics (oh, so many fabrics!), mirrors, light fixtures, knobs and pulls.  Here are some working photos along with some of the finished ones. All photos were courtesy of my client.

This is not your typical ski lodge. The client wanted something more modern and chic with some rustic touches.

There were 32 custom pillows, mattress covers, bolsters and even a blanket made by my workroom.

There are two wet bars - well, I call them "dry" bars because we did not put in sinks... one upstairs and one down:

We used the same herringbone marble as we did in one of the master bathrooms for the first one...

And a shimmery tile for the second one.

There were 2 master bathrooms (to go with the two master bedrooms), two guest baths and a powder room. We used a lot of white subway tile throughout the five bathrooms.

Most of the floors were blue limestone and most of the counters were white marble. In this master bath, we added a marble hexagon tile rug in front of the vanity:

A fun patterned floor tile is surrounded by wood to transition nicely to the stone floor in the hallway outside the room.

In the second master bath, my client found a unique vintage workbench that we painted charcoal and used as the vanity.  We repeated the marble herringbone pattern here for the tub walls:

 Here is the original workbench:

We put in a lot of fun light fixtures:

You can see it is a spectacular home ...

And what a view!

Goodbye Weddings ... Hello!

I have been absent from this dusty old blog for quite a few months now and it is about time I stopped in to say hello and check in! The New Year came with a new set of challenges for me and in order to stay sane balanced, I had to make some adjustments. One of the changes I made was to sell the wedding side of my business. In January, I handed the key to my storage unit with all my props and gave all the best wishes to two amazing (and young!) women that are already off to a great start. Here is a glimpse of one of their first events ...

They are very talented and if you are looking for some help with an event you are planning you really should contact them.

I really loved designing the weddings and when I look back on the weddings I styled - especially the ones from last summer - I have such fond memories and the photos just make me smile.

The weddings were always something I did "on the side." I began the wedding business after I designed my daughter's wedding in 2010 and it kind of just evolved. The blog was created to promote the weddings and I did no more than two or three a summer for "fun". I think if I was 20 (or 30 - let's be honest) years younger I may have chosen to focus on weddings primarily or maybe even just do flowers. Honestly, it is so much fun and such great energy. I think part of what I loved about the weddings is that it was just all so positive - from the brides, the love, the excitement. And when it was over it was over. (No calls months later that there is an issue with a defective product, no fires to put out... all positive and lovely). That being said, it was time to move on and focus on other things...

Like this project that is starting to come together with a June finish date (fabulous photos to come!):

I have a lot of fantastic projects I am working on right now that are keeping me busy and I will share when I can. I hope you are all doing well... Happy 2015! Happy Spring :) Thanks so much for stopping by!

Picking materials for a mountain home and more great Homegoods finds

I spent a couple of hours looking at fabrics with a client yesterday ...

We are working on a new mountain home she is building in Wyoming. We selected fabrics for the large living room and also for the master bedroom. It is a large house and we are going room by room ...

This reminded me of a rabbit fur ... it is faux. It will be made into a pillow for the living room sofa.

This will be a blanket we are making for the back of one of the sofas. The thin purple stripe will coordinate with the eggplant colored velvet sofas.

I sent my client this collage to show her how I see the fixtures looking - a nice mix of iron and brass. You can find the images and their sources on my Pinterest page here.

The fabrics we selected for the master bedroom were inspired by a pillow the client purchased. We set up fabrics on chairs in the Pindler showroom to give us a visual of how they would look together.

This house is going to have some wonderful materials ... with rustic, industrial and modern touches. Last week we worked on some of the stone for the bathrooms:

So much fun!

After our meeting I went over to see what was going on at my local HomeGoods. As usual I was not disappointed ...

If only I had a warehouse to store it all. If only!
