Out with the old ... in with the new

"That moment" ... when you discover you have an extra hour because you forgot to set your office clock back. This happened to me yesterday and it was such a gift! How is your week going? Are you enjoying the time change? I am loving getting up with the sun ... I am not loving it getting dark so early.

Several (four?) years ago I purchased an Ikea dresser for our guest room. It was the summer both girls were home. It was a temporary need and at some point the dresser ended up in the kitchen.

When we remodeled our kitchen we threw a marble top on it and it serves as extra storage and occasionally as a sideboard for serving. I never changed the glass knobs I had put on it when it was in the bedroom.

Add a couple of years, current research on some kitchen remodels I am working on, fabulous Pinterest images of amazing brass hardware, a nice gift card balance at Anthropologie .... can you see where this is going?

Out with the old ...

In with the new!

I'm kind of loving it!

I am also loving the progress we are making in this living room ...

Here are a couple of inspiration boards I presented to the client when we started. The goal was to add some color and storage to a plain living room:

The Ikea media cabinet and new lamp is in place ...

And the new pillows are finished. The client found the ottoman at HomeGoods. Love. The new rug is on its way.

You might also remember this board:

I posted about this master bedroom here and here. The mirror arrived and everything is in place.

My iPhone photos are not doing me any favors these days ... I have got to learn how to use the camera I bought last year ... something else to do in my spare time.

Oh, and I just saw this! Have you read the book?

Artwork and a master bedroom update

We are making progress on this master bedroom. The rug was delivered and installed and the new dresser arrived as well. While we are waiting for the new floor mirror, my client and I visited my framer to get some new artwork ready to hang.

This gal and her husband love art and always surprise me with new things they want to hang. She bought the piece above from the art website 20x200. We found a very interesting frame for it that will look fantastic in their beach house.

I think they picked this one up while on vacation and it will hang next to the new mirror in the bedroom.

The new rug is perfect and the dresser will give them much needed storage as well as a nice piece of furniture to anchor the TV that is mounted on the wall above it. To remind you, this was the inspiration board:

I should probably wait to show you the final reveal as my quick iPhone photos do not do the changes justice ... but I am impatient. So here are some "in-progress" photos:

The rug was from Barclay Butera and although you can't tell in my iPhone photo - it makes the room look twice as big. The new lamps are gorgeous. We put one on each side of the bed.

You can see the old lamp(s) these replace in this "before" photo.

And even though we aren't done, we were successful in lightening up and adding some sophistication to the room.

I can't wait for the final reveal!

A few projects I am working on

I am working on a number of projects right now - some small and some not so small ...

One of the projects is a re-design of a master bedroom I did 8 years ago. How is it that eight years seems like three? The bedding was starting to look worn and the client was ready for something new. She had already purchased all white bedding (can you see my big smile?) and was hoping bring new life to the room. We will be keeping the bed, replacing a matching armoire with a new dresser, adding a floor mirror and area rug and replacing/changing around some lighting. Here is the bed currently:

Playing around with new bedding ideas ...

The client has a fantastic zebra bench at the foot of the bed - part of Drexel Heritage's Postobello collection that has been discontinued since we purchased it. It is still one of our favorite things in the room. We decided to move the bench to the side wall and place a large floor mirror behind it. We are removing an armoire that was on the side wall and replacing it with a dresser that will go under a television that is on the wall in front of the bed. It will give more storage (and better storage - it has some small jewelry drawers) and will allow more room on the side of the bed. Moving the bench makes room for the new dresser.

We will be adding this gorgeous new rug ...

And removing the beautiful chandelier for a ceiling fan - a very hard thing to do because we love the light fixture but they need a fan. Fortunately I was able to find a fan that the client liked and compliments the room design:

We will be adding a couple of new side table lamps, a floor lamp (to make up for the lost chandelier) and some new pillows.

Another project I am in the middle of is a family room remodel. I am in the process of designing a new media cabinet while we wait for new french doors to be installed and some light construction to be completed. It is a slow moving project ... but I did get the new pillows delivered last week ...

And a new rug and coffee table ottoman will be delivered soon.

In between I helped a darling lady with some small re-upholstery items and a new area rug.

All brightened up with a new Pindler fabric and a fresh new rug (that you can barely see).

And wedding season is finally here ... I am working on three weddings right now ... This is the beginning of one.
