Decorating for Christmas little by little

I started decorating for Christmas yesterday (slowly, ha ha) and I decided to move a few things around. While I was scrounging around looking for things I might want to use, I found a couple of lamps that I picked up last year from HomeGoods. I had purchased the lamps separately and they did not have matching shades. I figured that some day I would find shades for them both but I never really pursued it. Well, yesterday was that day! I was shopping for a client and walked into Pottery Barn just to browse and saw the perfect shades for those lamps. What was even better was that I had a nice little credit (rebate from my PB credit card). I love that they didn't cost me anything and I love the way they turned out ... they are shiny and pretty for Christmas and a fun change.

A good start but needs color ...
One of the first things I do to decorate is pull out the ornaments. Even before my tree is up I like to group them in bowls or on trays to add a little color and sparkle. When when the tree is up I use some of those ornaments but ultimately many will stay. It is a simple way to decorate and a little color goes a long way.

BEFORE ...
AFTER!

Putting the ornaments in groups of similar colors makes a big impact.

Sometimes even just a touch of color can make a difference!

A fun and inexpensive thing I did was frame the cover to the Garnet Hill catalogue that came in the mail yesterday. It is so perfect... "my" colors and it could be my ornaments sitting around! Art imitating life?

I am new to your blog, and I love your sense of style and design! I'm wondering where you purchased your wrought iron fireplace screen, we have a 7 month old that is crawling everywhere and need to purchase a screen soon! Blessings on your day!

Hi Kim ... thank you! I bought the screen at a little design store (Green Street Interiors, Los Alamitos, CA) about 18 years ago - I know I really love it too and I have not seen them like that for a long time. I would check Wilshire Fireplace - they have a great selection of screens http://www.wilshirefireplace.com/fireplace-screens.html#Products But keep in mind that a free standing screen can be really dangerous for a child who might try to pull on it to stand up. Blessings to you too!

I like your new lampshades! I like how your Christmas decorating is going so far too - the ornaments are such a festive touch. I'm doing way more blogging about Christmas decorating than actually getting any done - the same thing happened to me last year. :-) We'll see how much of my own I actually get done and when.
